A Method for Producing A Titanium-Carbide-Iron-Alumina Functional Graded Material Under Centrifugal Acceleration
TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW
The present invention relates to a method for fabrication a titanium-carbide-iron-alumina functionally graded material, characterized by the steps of compacting graphite in a cylindrical vessel to form a hollow graphite crucible. A titanium-carbon pellet is placed within a depression formed on an inner side of the hollow graphite crucible. A ferric oxide and aluminium mixture is filled into the hollow graphite crucible, wherein said mixture is in contact with the titanium-carbon pellet. Rotating the cylindrical vessel and igniting the ferric oxide and aluminium mixture, wherein the ferric oxide and aluminium undergoes an exothermic reaction igniting the titanium-carbon pellet, thereby forming the functional graded material.
