A Method of Manufacturing Multicore Optical Fiber


The present invention discloses a method of manufacturing a multicore optical fiber with no requirement of packing the core canes inside the glass tube or jacket tube. The method comprising the steps of arranging core canes with any desired array and fusing both ends of the core canes with silica rods to form silica bridges and become a single multicore preform; installing the single multicore preform at the top of a fiber optic pulling system; heating the bottom end of the single multicore preform with a furnace of the fiber optic pulling system to form a multicore optical fiber; and coating the multicore optical fiber with acrylate and curing the multicore optical fiber with ultraviolet radiation. The method according to the present invention will improve the bending tolerance and reduce the crosstalks of the produced the multicore optical fiber.
